Collaboration is acknowledged as better than going it alone; especially when it comes to strengthening the wellbeing of communities in a holistic way. By thinking, planning, and working together, individuals and groups that make a community can accomplish goals that neither could achieve alone.

Diverse stakeholders shape their holistic efforts through collaborative partnerships. These partnerships give communities a structure for organizing, planning, and implementing their ideas. The process of building a collaborative partnership is multidimensional. It involves:

  • recognizing opportunities for change
  • mobilizing people and resources to create changes
  • developing a vision of long-term change
  • seeking support and involvement from diverse and non-traditional partners
  • building trust among collaborators; and
  • developing learning opportunities for partners

Agencies and representatives of the Waikato Migrant Resource Centre Association Inc. are working together in cross sector working groups. This often involves representation from local government, government departments, NGO’s and community groups.

There also quarterly sector meetings of the New Settlers Focus Group (Feb/May/Aug/Nov – Third Wednesday 9.30-11.00am) at the Waikato Migrant Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.

Although collaborative effort takes time and requires careful attention, through strong, viable partnerships lasting effects for local communities can be developed.

While “cash” may seem like the most obvious area to contribute as WMRC sponsor, many other benefits exist for incorporating sponsorship into a community festival or programme to assist migrant/ethnic communities. Various sponsorship categories are available depending on the event or programme being organised.
